Los Gatos Boulevard meets Blossom Hill Road at one of the busiest shopping corners in town. Within about one block there are three grocery sites. One is the Whole Foods that opened this spring. One is the Nob Hill Foods that has stood at the corner for close to six decades. The third is the empty space in Cornerstone Shopping Center that Whole Foods moved out of. By mid-2027 each of those sites will hold something different from what it held at the start of 2026.
Every change at this corner traces back to a property owner deciding what its site should be. The grocers are tenants, and they are moving in the order their landlords' plans allow. That explains why the calendar has some firm dates and one large blank.
Whole Foods Doubled in Size by Crossing the Road
The first change was the biggest. The new Whole Foods Market at 15650 Los Gatos Blvd. opened on April 15, 2026, according to the company's announcement. It covers 43,130 square feet, which the company describes as nearly twice the size of the old store. The release lists a coffee-and-juice bar, more seating, more customer parking, and more than 2,000 local products from over 350 California suppliers. It also has full prepared foods, bakery, seafood, meat and beverage departments.
The new store did not start with Whole Foods. It started with a vacant car lot. San José Spotlight reported in December 2024 that Sand Hill Property Company planned to redevelop the former Moore Buick/Chevrolet dealership, a site of more than 7 acres, with a Tesla showroom and service center alongside the grocery store. A developer redrew one large parcel, and Whole Foods filled it.
The new building stands across Los Gatos-Almaden Road from Nob Hill Foods. The Los Gatan noted that four months after the opening, Nob Hill announced it would leave.
The Order Things Happen In
The changes arrive in a set order, and the most important dates fall in 2027.
| When | What happens | Address |
|---|---|---|
| December 2024 | Redevelopment of the former Moore Buick/Chevrolet site reported, with Tesla and Whole Foods planned | Los Gatos Blvd. |
| April 15, 2026 | New Whole Foods Market opens at 43,130 sq ft | 15650 Los Gatos Blvd. |
| August 2026 | Nob Hill's departure and Gus's Community Market's lease announced | Cornerstone and Blossom Hill corner |
| Early September 2026 | Club Studio arrives in the former Rite Aid | 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. |
| October 6, 2026 | Club Studio announces it has officially opened its doors | 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. |
| November 14, 2026 | Club Studio's official grand opening celebration | 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. |
| Spring 2027 | Gus's Community Market expected to open | 15980 Los Gatos Blvd. |
| End of June 2027 | Nob Hill Foods expected to close | Los Gatos Blvd. and Blossom Hill Rd. |
The Whole Foods move left a large space at Cornerstone, and the owner filled it with a planned tenant mix. And the last two rows sit close enough together that the corner may briefly have three grocers before it drops back to two.
Cornerstone Chose Its Next Tenants
When Whole Foods and Rite Aid both left Cornerstone Shopping Center, the center could have sat half-empty for a while. Its owner treated the double vacancy as a chance to start over. Cilker, the Los Gatos-based asset and property management firm that runs the center, called the new tenants "a strategic repositioning of the property." Vice President Mary Egan said this to The Los Gatan, describing two community-minded businesses replacing two legacy establishments.
The first of those businesses is already open. Club Studio, a fitness club, took the former Rite Aid space at 15920 Los Gatos Blvd. A company release dated October 6 says the club has officially opened its doors, dates its arrival to early September, and sets its official grand opening celebration for November 14, 2026. The release describes four boutique studio rooms for instructor-led group classes, plus strength and cardio equipment and functional training areas.
The second business is the grocery. Gus's Community Market, a family-owned San Francisco grocer with five stores in that city, signed for 18,000 square feet in the former Whole Foods space. The address is 15980 Los Gatos Blvd., and it will be the company's first store in the South Bay. The Mercury News puts the expected opening in spring 2027. "Spring" is a target. No construction milestone has been made public yet.
Club Studio and Gus's together show Cornerstone's plan. A center that used to rely on one large grocer and a pharmacy now pairs a smaller specialty grocer with a fitness club. Those are two kinds of tenants that bring people back several times a week.
Two Accounts of Why Nob Hill Is Leaving
Nob Hill Foods has been at Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road for nearly 56 years, according to The Los Gatan. The departure is firm. Two outlets give different reasons for it.
The Los Gatan reported in August that Nob Hill chose not to renew a lease expiring in 2027. It said a spokesperson for parent company Raley's tied the decision to a review of the store's performance and current economic conditions. A few days later, Grocery Dive quoted a Raley's representative saying the Los Gatos closure is due to the landlord terminating the grocer's lease. Grocery Dive and SFGATE both place the closing at the end of June 2027.
Both accounts may be partly true. Either way, a lease is involved, and the owner of the Nob Hill site will decide what comes next there. The Los Gatos store is part of a broader pullback. The Los Gatan noted that Raley's closed its Mountain View store in May and its Roseville store in January. Grocery Dive's report covers more closures under the Raley's banner in Brentwood, Elko and Petaluma.
A Brief Overlap, Then a Corner With No Announced Plan
Put the 2027 dates side by side. If Gus's opens in spring 2027 as expected and Nob Hill stays open until the end of June, the corner will have three grocers for a short time: Whole Foods, Gus's and Nob Hill. If Gus's opening slips into summer, there may be no overlap at all, and the old Whole Foods space and the Nob Hill site could both be dark for a stretch.
After June, the open question is the Nob Hill site itself. No successor tenant, site plan or owner announcement has been made public for the corner of Los Gatos Boulevard and Blossom Hill Road. The two earlier changes in this story came with a named tenant before the old one left. Whole Foods had a new building ready before it moved out, and Cornerstone had Gus's and Club Studio signed before its vacancies made news. The Nob Hill corner is the first piece of this reshuffle without a stated next step.
That makes it the date to watch. Applications for a new use of the site would most likely show up in Town of Los Gatos planning agendas before any sign goes up.
Where the Weekly Shop Goes in the Meantime
For the next eight months or so, the area's grocery options look like this:
- Whole Foods Market, 15650 Los Gatos Blvd. The new, larger store, open since April 15, 2026.
- Nob Hill Foods, Los Gatos Blvd. and Blossom Hill Rd. Expected to stay open through the end of June 2027.
- Lunardi's. The specialty grocer about five blocks north of the new Whole Foods site, per The Los Gatan.
- Safeway. A large store on the east side of Highway 17 near downtown.
- Gus's Community Market, 15980 Los Gatos Blvd. Expected in spring 2027 in the former Whole Foods space at Cornerstone.
The next confirmed date on the calendar is November 14, when Club Studio holds its grand opening at Cornerstone. After that, the next milestones are Gus's opening in the spring and Nob Hill's last day at the end of June.
